Easter Sunday is one of the most celebrated days of the year. New outfits. Big crowds. Great food. Powerful worship. But beyond the celebration, there’s a question that matters far more than any of that.
He’s alive. So what now?
That’s the question Pastor Jay brought to our congregation this Resurrection Sunday. And the answer is bigger than you might expect.
The Resurrection Will Disrupt Your Expectations
When the women arrived at the tomb on that first Easter morning, they brought spices. They came expecting a body. What they found instead was an empty tomb and two angels in dazzling robes asking a question that still cuts deep today: “Why are you looking among the dead for someone who is alive?”
They loved Jesus. They followed Jesus. But they were still living with burial expectations.
“The resurrection will always disrupt what you’ve been expecting.”
Pastor Jay asked us to check ourselves on that. How many of us love God but still expect defeat? How many of us worship but still walk in fear? The resurrection isn’t just history. It’s an invitation to raise your expectations.
He Is Not a Liar. He Is the Lord.
Jesus told his disciples what was going to happen. He said he would be betrayed, crucified, and rise again on the third day. And he did exactly that.
In John 10:18, Jesus said he had the authority to lay his life down and take it up again. Nobody took his life. He gave it. And he took it back. If he said it, he’ll do it.
The question isn’t whether God keeps his word. The question is whether we’re living like he does.
Your Sin Is Forgiven
This is the part that should make us shout louder than anything else.
When Jesus rose from the dead, it wasn’t just a miracle. It was a receipt. A confirmation that the price for sin had been paid in full. Not partially. Not conditionally. Fully.
It doesn’t matter what you’ve done. It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been doing it. God doesn’t need you to clean yourself up before he accepts you. He’s more concerned about your heart than your habits. Come as you are. He’ll do the cleaning.
Death Has Been Defeated
The number one fear reported by people around the world is death. And that makes sense. Until you understand what the resurrection actually means.
“We don’t serve a dead God. So even if he’s quiet, it doesn’t mean he’s dead.”
Because Jesus rose from the dead, death lost its power over those who believe. As Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 15, death has been swallowed up in victory. For the believer, death isn’t the end. It’s the ride to eternity.
That means we can stop living in fear and start living in faith.
New Life Is Available Right Now
Paul makes it plain in 1 Corinthians 15. If Christ was not raised, our faith means nothing. But he was raised. And because of that, new life is available to every single person who believes.
Not someday. Not after you get your act together. Now.
When the women ran back and told the disciples what they had seen, most of them dismissed it. But Peter ran to the tomb. He had to see for himself. And that’s what resurrection does. It invites movement. It calls you to respond.
You can sit and analyze it. You can doubt it. Or you can run toward it.
